Strong bones are needed to give the body proper structure, to provide solid anchors for muscles, and to protect vital organs from injury. A combination of proper exercise and diet can help build bone strength in young people. As people age, that calcium-bone-building process stops, which can affect bone density. Osteo Guard contains calcium plus other ingredients that help the body absorb and make the greatest use of this mineral that is vital to bone strength throughout one’s lifetime.

Foods rich in calcium help build strong bones, but a number of factors can keep people from getting the proper amount needed for calcium-bone support. Some people are lactose-intolerant, meaning they cannot eat the dairy products that support bone density. Strict vegetarians also shun dairy products as a lifestyle choice and so must seek other sources of calcium for bone building.

Osteo Guard is formulated to meet the needs of people with a variety of diets. The supplement contains seven different types of calcium for bone strength. Calcium is needed for strong bones and must be a regular part of one’s diet because the body is constantly breaking down and rebuilding calcium-bone. Because bone reconstruction slows in older people, experts say that daily intake of calcium should increase with age. In fact, the number of milligrams that should be ingested every day rises from 500 in toddlers to 1,200 in people 51 years and older. (6)

Research shows that bone density is related to diets that include adequate amounts of calcium. Bone density is a measure of the amount of bone tissue in a certain volume of bone. The higher the amount, the better for bone density. The right kinds of exercise and food, including calcium-bone supplements can help maintain bone strength. A daily dosage contains 100% of the daily value needed to help maintain strong bones.

To promote bone density, the calcium is formulated several ways for optimal absorption. For example, research indicates that calcium carbonate is better absorbed at meals than the calcium citrate found in this calcium-bone supplement. (2) Calcium is also known to support the proper function of nerves and muscles.

Osteo Guard is fortified with Vitamin D, which contributes to bone strength. Vitamin D is found naturally in only a few foods, so is often added to products such as milk and dietary supplements. Vitamin D is necessary for the promotion of intestinal absorption of the ingredients in calcium-bone supplements. The interaction of the vitamin and calcium help form and maintain strong bones. Vitamin D performs other functions, including the regulation of concentrations of serum calcium and phosphates in the blood. Proper levels create optimum conditions for calcium-bone formation.

Adults are known to lose bone density as part of the aging process. For women, this happens about the time they go through menopause. Research on females from 70 to 80 years of age suggests that adding vitamin D to calcium supplements can produce long-term improvements in hip-bone density. (1) Each daily dosage contains 100% of the daily value for strong bones.

Vitamin C contributes to bone strength by helping the body absorb calcium. The vitamin helps younger people in the formation of strong bones and of collagen, a structural component of bones. The vitamin may also have an effect on the bone density of older people. One study found that taking high levels of vitamin C may boost calcium-bone density in postmenopausal women. (3) Another study found that a high intake of vitamin C may help reduce bone loss in elderly men. (4) Each daily dosage contains 200% of the daily value.

Osteo Guard contains magnesium for bone strength. The mineral is involved in calcium homeostasis and the formation of hydroxylapatite, which makes up about 70% of bone. Magnesium helps build strong bones by converting vitamin D to its active form and setting in motion key enzymes that stimulate bone cells. The mineral also contributes to calcium absorption. A daily dosage of magnesium in this calcium-bone supplement contains 100% of the daily value. As an added benefit, magnesium supports immune system health.

Vitamin K plays a role in bone formation and repair. While its role in maintaining bone density is not completely known, scientists have found three proteins dependent on vitamin K in the bone. There is evidence that suggests they may be related to bone mineralization. Studies have demonstrated the importance of vitamin K in a program to maintain strong bones.

Zinc can be found in the hydroxylapatite crystals in bones. The mineral helps regulate the rate at which new bone replaces old bone, which can affect bone density. Zinc also supports the proper function of alkaline phosphatase, an enzyme required for bone mineralization. And zinc plays a role in bone strength. (5) A daily dosage in this calcium-bone supplement contains 67% of the daily value.

A number of other ingredients contribute to bone strength:

  • Manganese in Osteo Guard supports enzymes that help build strong bones. A daily dose in this calcium-bone supplement contains 50% of the daily value.
  • Boron plays a key role in maintaining strong bones, according to scientific research. The trace mineral may also enhance the absorption of calcium and magnesium, both of which are essential to bone strength.
  • Betaine hydrochloride also assists in the absorption of calcium in the digestive system.

By definition all minerals have traces of lead. However, Osteo Guard has been made virtually lead-free.

Osteo Guard is formulated to promote bone strength in males and females ages 13 and up. Take two tablets twice per day as part of a diet that maintains strong bones. Bottle contains a month supply of 120 tablets. Price $20.
