Prostate cancer medication shows progress in delaying progression of disease

Prostate cancer is one of the most common ailments that affect men when they enter middle age, but a recent study testing the medication Avodart has found that the medication could have a positive impact in reducing the spread of the disease, according to MedPageToday.com.

The study followed 302 men between the ages of 48 and 82 and split them up into groups receiving Avodart and one receiving a placebo. After undergoing biopsies at 18 months and three years, those taking the drug showed disease progression 38 percent of the time, while the placebo group notched 48 percent, according to TheStar.com.

The results are a hopeful sign for middle-aged men who should be receiving regular screenings to check for any irregularities. While a prostate cancer prognosis is usually positive if caught early, this new wave of clinical trials shows just how far doctors have come in treating the disease.

If you're approaching middle age, now might be the ideal time to start taking a vitamin supplement to improve the health of your prostate. Clinician's Choice Prostate Guardian is formulated with lycopene, selenium and other nutrients to promote long-term prostate health.
