Taking fish oil during pregnancy can reduce child's risk of eczema

Fish oil has become one of the most popular nutritional supplements on the market with a range of healthy benefits, and new ones are being discovered all the time. A recent study by the Women's and Children's Health Research Institute in North Adelaide, South Australia, has found that women who took the supplements reduced their infants' risk of developing the skin condition, eczema, reports NewScientist.com.

"This is potentially important because these children are the ones considered most likely to develop asthma and respiratory allergies at school age," Maria Makrides, one of the study's lead researchers, told the news source.

The scientists followed 700 pregnant women and gave half a placebo whole the others took an omega-3 fish oil tablet daily. The doctors found that the fatty acids in the supplements actually helped to reduce inflammation in the cell membranes of the fetus, which could eventually lead to allergies and a form of eczema that can be passed to children.

Along with benefits to pregnant women, fish oil holds innumerable benefits for those entering middle age. Clinician's Choice Optimal Omega-3 Fish Oil is a fabulous addition to a daily vitamin regimen that can reduce a person's cholesterol levels and chances for cardiovascular disease.
