A recent nutritional study of elderly individuals at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, has revealed surprising results about the relationship between overeating and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), according to CBSNews.com.
The study followed a group of 1,200 dementia-free patients between the ages of 70 and 89 and split them into different caloric groups. One group would eat a diet containing between 600 and 1,526 calories per day, another would eat between 1,526 and 2,143 and the last ate in the neighborhood of 2,143 and 6,000 calories per day.
Amazingly, the researchers found that the group that ate the most calories were at twice the risk for MCI than the other groups. Once again, the study shows that cutting calories and eating healthy food can dramatically improve one's quality of life in their later years.
