New study suggests that bone density tests' frequency can be reduced for older women

In a recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, doctors now suggest that women who have bone density tests around age 65 can safely wait as long as 10 years before being retested. According to the New York Times, because of the slow development of osteoporosis and bone loss, women will be safe as long as they strive to keep healthy and active.

The study examined nearly 5,000 women aged 67 and older over the course of 10 years. The researchers were stunned to find that less than one percent of the women with normal bone density developed osteoporosis over the next 15 years, while less than 5 percent developed the disorder after they reported mildly low bone density earlier in the study.

"[The results] provide telling evidence that you are not going to fall off a cliff if you have normal bone density in your 60s or early 70s, that you are not going to have osteoporosis in the next five years unless something else happens," Joan A. McGowan, a director at the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, told the news source.

While this is certainly good news for women entering middle age, they should still keep bone health as one of their top priorities by taking Clinician's Choice Osteo Guardian. This supplement will help to prevent bone loss and the onset of osteoporosis.
