Keys to Better Bone Health

Every solution for insuring better bone health begins with getting the proper dosage and the best quality of calcium available.

There is a remarkably increased awareness, especially among women, that taking a calcium supplement is essential to maintaining strong healthy bones. The fact is, that as we age, our bones lose calcium and become more brittle. This has led to more and more individuals taking steps to minimize this process. The use of a calcium supplement is fundamental to preventing this demineralization of our bones, also called osteoporosis.

Today we have more accurate ways to measure bone density and better prescription medications to treat osteoporosis than ever before. Nevertheless, osteoporosis is still a major public health issue. The incidence of osteoporosis runs as high as one out of four women and one out of eight men. Each year, those individuals suffer painful fractures involving the wrists, spine and hips. The more we learn about osteoporosis the more we realize that calcium supplements are essential to treating this disease. A recent survey of a thousand women who were taking a prescription medication to treat osteoporosis revealed that about half of these women had mistakenly stopped taking a calcium supplement. The only way to maximize bone strength is to include a calcium supplement in your daily regimen.

There are numerous calcium supplements available to the consumer. Most physicians recommend that their patients choose one of these over-the-counter calcium supplements. Many of these products have fundamental flaws. It is important to choose a calcium supplement that avoids the mistakes so many formulations contain.

It is important that your calcium is lead-free. Many of the leading brands use calcium sources contaminated with small doses of lead. The human body cannot metabolize lead. Exposure to small amounts of lead over time means long-term accumulation. This can cause serious injury to the brain, central nervous system, red blood cells and kidneys.

The most common form of calcium found in calcium supplements is calcium carbonate. The next most commonly found source used is calcium citrate. The manufacturers using calcium citrate proudly advertise it as superior to carbonate because they say the citrate is better absorbed. The truth is that calcium in any form is not easily absorbed.

Finally, a calcium supplement must contain two other ingredients to be effective. Vitamin D is needed to further enhance intestinal absorption of calcium. A calcium supplement that does not contain vitamin D is fatally flawed. Sadly, many of the calcium supplements that do contain vitamin D do not contain the proper amount required. A calcium supplement should also contain magnesium. Magnesium activates key enzymes that stimulate bone cells and result in proper calcium deposition. The body also tries to keep calcium and magnesium levels in balance. A calcium supplement without magnesium will adversely affect the absorption of calcium because the body will try to keep the proper balance between the two ingredients.

Why is Clinician's Choice Osteo Guard far superior to its competition?

Osteo Guard contains chelated calcium. This is important because there is no safe lead level for consumption. Many of the calcium supplements that contain "natural" calcium have been found to have lead contamination. A calcium supplement that does not disclose the fact that it is chelated should be avoided.

Osteo Guard contains seven different types of calcium. However, the major difference between Osteo Guard and its competition is a process called amino acid chelation. In this process, an amino acid is wrapped around the outer layer of the calcium molecule. The protein covering of the calcium in Osteo Guard allows it to pass through the intestinal wall much easier. The result is significantly increased calcium absorption. The reason most popular calcium supplements do not utilize this technology is because it is more expensive.

Studies have shown that the body can only absorb a maximum of 600 mg of calcium at one time. This makes it important that you take a calcium supplement in divided doses. The regimen of two Osteo Guard (500 mg) twice a day is the proper schedule.

Osteo Guard contains the proper levels of Vitamin D. It takes 400 IU of Vitamin D per 1000 mg of calcium to provide optimal intestinal absorption. This is exactly the amount found in Osteo Guard.

Osteo Guard contains the trace minerals needed for complete bone health. These trace minerals include Magnesium, Manganese, Boron, and Zinc. These minerals are essential to ensure bone mineralization.

Strong healthy bones are important to an active healthy life. The choice of Osteo Guard not only means you will be getting the best calcium supplement available, but that you will be getting a safe and effective product.
